Michael F. Murphy, MBA, CMA

President, Murphy CFO Services

A native to Long Island, New York, Mike served with the U.S. Marine Corps for five years before receiving an honorable discharge.  He then moved to Cartersville, Georgia where he began a progressive career at The Home Depot, serving in several different roles of increasing responsibility that included accounting, finance, strategy, process improvement (six sigma) and operations.  His most recent role was managing the quantitative analysis department of Home Depot Tool Rental where he was responsible for global pricing, product placement and yield management for all locations.  At the time, Tool Rental included over $400 million in rental assets and generated over $600 million in revenue.  Mike led the cultural change in management philosophy to a centralized, data-driven approach, which resulted in increased efficiency and profitability.

At The Home Depot, Mike commuted from Cartersville to Atlanta and in 2006 as a quality of life decision, chose to leave The Home Depot to work for ShawHankins: an insurance brokerage firm headquartered in Cartersville.  As Chief Financial Officer, he was responsible for financial operations, administrative operations and special projects.  During that time, Mike developed and implemented the financial and operational infrastructure that provided the scalability to allow continued growth from a small business to a mid-sized competitor with several locations throughout Georgia, establishing itself as an industry leader in the region.

Understanding the challenges that small businesses face when they continue to grow, specifically in the area of accounting and analytical infrastructure, in 2010 Mike founded Murphy CFO Services and began servicing ShawHankins as a client.  Since then, Murphy CFO Services has helped several small businesses make the changes necessary to continue growing.

In the local community, Mike currently serves as the 2012 Finance Chair for the Cartersville/Bartow Chamber of Commerce.  He serves as a Director and past Chair of the Etowah Scholarship Foundation, is a volunteer on the Advocates for Children finance committee and is the Treasurer for the Cartersville/Bartow Exchange Club.  Mike is a graduate of Leadership Bartow through the Cartersville/Bartow Chamber of Commerce.
